Hi guys. I have a problem and was wondering if anyone else has ever had it, or know anything else about it. I have a 99 Contour SE V6 and have about 103,000 miles on it. I bought in brand new frm the dealer and have always done the maitenance on it myself and keep it in tip top shape. I drive it easy and really try to baby her. I love this car.

However, two days ago, I was driving, stopped for a light, and heard a low knocking coming from the engine. I thought it might have been a timing problem (really didn't sound like a valve) so I brought it into the local Ford Dealer.

What a mistake. Two days of not having the car and $450.00 later they still can't find out what is wrong with it. They def. told me what it wasn't though. It isn't a timing, cam, rocker, or spring problem. They wanted to charge me $1000 to pop the heads and look at the valves. I really doubt that is it because I feel the engine should last more than 100,000 miles? Am I correct in assuming so? Also, the kncking only seemed to be occuring at idle, and didn't get louder when hitting the gas.

I am extermelly furstrated with this dealer, so I argued with them to put the car back together, so I can come and pick it up. After talks with the Service manager, they are suppossed to put it back together. We will see how many parts they "forget" to put back in "by accident".

So anyway, long story short. I am stumped about what to do next. Any ideas? or has anyone else had/know of this problem?

Thank you very much.

Thanks for the reply SVTour98. The knocking doesn't get any faster or louder as the rpm's go higher. Before I brought it in, I had a friend of mine sit in the car and hit it a couple times while I listened to the enigne. Noise didn't change at all.

This sounds like a question for Terry Haines.

Clean the intake manifolds!

Clean the EGR & IAC while you have everything off too.

Don't forget new gaskets.

It will make a world of difference.

Finish it off with a bottle of Techron and then a new fuel filter...

Only at idle could be low oil pressure...have the dealer check the idle pressure with a gage...

Thanks everyone. I cleaned the intake manifolds, EGR, and IAC. After re-assembly the noise was gone. Ran some Techron through it, to clean up everything else. You all saved me a bunch of cash. Thanks Again!
