I don't have the details yet, but I dropped off my 2000 SVT on Monday at the local Ford dealer. I had noticed a tapping at 4K+ rpm. So I made a list of every other thing I could possibly think to have Ford take care of for me (still under warranty). I had a brief conversation with one of the managers and that tapping (a pin connecting the piston rod in cylinder 1 was making the noise) was enough of a problem that Ford will be installing a "new" SVT motor. I also mentioned a stiff shifting problem in the tranny.....yeah, they are going to rebuild that. Great service, not so sure about the car anymore. Does anyone have any insight on what has gone wrong. I don't beat on the car and take good mechanical care of it, I just don't get it.

I also have a 2000. It's been in the shop alot, but not for that. My tranny is getting shot too. It's got 20000 miles.
I don't think I'll have it much longer, I worry about the reliablity.

If you guys look around this forum, there is a lot of info on the engines and MTX trannies.

You should be running 6.5 quarts of OIL, in the ENGINE,
5.8 quarts is NOT enough...
And the trannies are prone to burning synchros.
The ATX isn't much better.
They overheat on long highway runs > 100 miles,
and the early Contours
had problems with the ATX pump blowing the pump seals, and burning the Torq Converter Clutch.

I preach proper maintenance...

6.5qts Mobil 1 with a K&N Filter (3-5k/4 mos)

"Tranny cocktail" (Mobil 1 ATF & FM) every 20k/2yrs - Keep those syncros happy, healthy, and clean

Don't forget the P/S fluid & brake fluid every 2 years as well.

You should see the brake fluid I just flushed out after only 2 years!!! eek Between the heavy braking and beeing used in the clutch hydraulics... Damn...
Fresh Valvoline Synpower to the rescue... laugh

The P/S fluid looked fine, though my pump is under driven nearly 20%. cool More Mobil 1 ATF here...

2000 SVT #674 - Check it out!
