"What did you think about that Dorothy girl?"
"The whole Judy Garland thing kinda turned me on. That doesn't make me some sort of fag does it?

If nothing else, I'd say that is misdirected. A nation's national anthem is a great source of pride. Attack/protest the politics if you must, but don't boo an anthem, or hang a flag upside down.
That's just insulting...especially to a U.S. Citizen.
But what do you expect, they boo the Canadian Anthem in Montreal as well.
"But what do you expect, they boo the Canadian Anthem in Montreal as well"
Good -- and key -- point.
But we're being told what we're doing in Iraq is being done purely in the name of promoting democracy. And we all know that our hard-fought-for First Amendment right to free speech is a crucial lynchpin of the democratic ideal ...
So, does our mixed-message translate to:
The right of free speech only applies to Americans?
That we will not tolerate Canadians (or anyone eles in the world who disagrees with the policies/actions of our government) who also dare to freely speak their mind?
That Natalie Maines (who carries a US passport that documents her identity and her US citizenship) surrendered her right to free speech the moment she left US airspace?
As long as we continue to portray ourselves as world-class hypocrites, how in the hell can we hope to sell anyone on democracy, American-style?

Let's forget for a minute whose citizens booed another country's national anthem. A select group of "people" disrespected another country's anthem, end of story. It really doesn't matter where they were from, it shows no class and they were wrong to do it. Period.
So to answer your question, these posts are all about categorizing the many by the actions of the few - painting the entire population with the same stereotypical brush. That doesn't make you any better than the idiots doing the booing, and it certainly doesn't make you any more right.

Oh, and if you're talking about the olympics, Gretzky said that other countries hated Canada, that they had a vendetta to beat Canada, and that Canada didn't share these feelings about the other countries, but that maybe they should start. You've got to understand, this is a hockey nation, and he was simply talking hockey. Hockey is our pride and joy, and we take it very seriously. I don't think this stirred up much controversy outside the hockey (or Olympic) world, at least as far as I know. Just FYI, you can poke and prod me abot politics all day long, and I'll buy you a beer, but start bashing hockey players and oops... off come the gloves!

Don't be so quick to apologize for those in Canada who "dare" to emulate and put into action the USA's Constitutional principle of the right to free speech.
In expressing their objections to the actions of the Bush II administration, they are VALIDATING -- not challenging -- that fundamental principle of American democracy.

Dude, you're not doing anything to offset the old, SNL MacKenzie Brothers stereotype, down here.
This has nothing to do with friggin' hockey!. It's about a war, and the cold-blooded economic and political reasons behind it.

Does that constitute a problem? You should have mentioned it to my face last time we met.. Please.
About the topic at hand, I honestly hope no one thinks a crowd's reaction at a hockey game has anything to do with our nation's feelings for Americans. Because it doesn't.
