This question has been asked many time...please search the forum and check the archives....
But to give you a simple answer:
Sythetic will not damage your engine...what it does is remove the deposits left by dyno oil. in the process of removing those deposits, some gaskets may begin to leak because the deposits that were blocking the leaks were removed.
Thats the main concer people have had. The rest you can find in the many threads of this topic in the archives.

EDIT...and with all oils i personaly change mine every 5000 to 7000 miles....desert conditions should be the same change rate....some chage every 3000 miles...but that can get expensive!!!
