And for the folks that whine about the loss of innocent lives, have you ever stopped to think about all of the innocent lives that are lost every day because someone like Saddam is in power over there? The man ordered chemical weapons used on his own people for crying out loud.

Three points about this:

1. The Kurds are not Saddams "own people" and never have been. They are a semi-autonomous group of people living in semi-autonomous regions of Iraq and Turkey. Calling the Kurds Saddams "own people" is a gross simplification which the administration has used to take advantage of America's gross stupidity concerning world affairs.

2. Was Saddam justified in commiting genocide against the Kurds? Of course not. But does that justify an attack now, after all the intervening years when the position of the administration at the time of the gassing was blase at best? If our goal was to rescue or save the beleagured Kurds, then why were we desperately seeking the assistance of the Turks in this war? Did anyone consult the Kurds about this? Isn't anyone familiar with the history between the Turks and the Kurds? If there is anyone with a history of screwing over the Kurds more than the US, its the Turks.

3. Don't you think its ironic that Saddam ordered the chemical weapons from the good old US of A. It seems that the previous Bush administration thought that it was fine and dandy for Saddam to utilize chemical weapons against the Iranians. Did you ever hear this or any other administration complain about this use of chemical weapons.

It is a shame that so many Americans blindly accept the pretext that this war is taking place because of Saddam's gassing of the Kurds.
