Fixing our healthcare system is a lot more complicated than just throwing money at it. Besides, the number one job of this country is to defend its people and its interest. I'm not a big fan of our healthcare system as it stands today but it's going to take a major overhaul to get it where it needs to be. If the US wasn't a super power and Canada had to decide on defense versus healthcare, who knows where Canada's healthcare system would be at today.

I did not read the entire thing, but if I was another country I would not participate in the war on Iraq. I would not vocally oppose the US or go against them, but I sure wouldn't spend my money or troops on it.

Hardly.

While Canada will not send standard ground forces, I believe JTF2 will be operating in Iraq.

Better to send 350 warriors than 10,000 sheep.

Not supporting the war in Iraq doesn't mean that I don't support the US's decision to remove Saddam and to disarm Iraq.
I strongly believe war is only a short term solution, Saddam will be removed and a million other Saddams will be reborn. Too many innocent people will be killed and lots of survivors wanting to seek revenge. I donā??t understand why kill the innocent and turn the survivors against us, when Saddam can be assassinated. Or in other words save millions of lives and get the Iraqis support rather than turning them into enemies.
and if many Canadians don't support the war don't be ashamed, just try to understand why so many of us feel that way and be proud that you live in a country that lets everyone express their opinion. I'd hate to ask, but how could an ashamed Canadian be also a proud Canadian. I am a proud Canadian and will always be proud about who I am, even when I disagree with decisions made by my government. I'm sorry to hear you say that you are ashamed; I hope I can help you change your mind and convince you that you live in one of the greatest countries on this planet.

Let me put it this way: THE IRAQI PEOPLE REALLY DO NOT LIKE SADDAM. Also, Saddam has killed/will kill more innocent Iraqis than we could ever kill in this war.

First off, they won't be turning into enemies. I am not exactly sure where you are getting this idea from. Secondly, you cannot just assassinate Saddam. You said it yourself, "a million other Saddams will be reborn." But more importantly, Saddam has sons, who are just as or more ruthless than he is and do you really want a younger, more volatile dictactor in charge?

I am not for this war either, but every argument against it seems to be fairly weak. There are several legitimate arguments against it and I cannot recall anyone bringing them to light on this site.

In a way i agree with Lbuzzer in most of his opinions cause it's true that our goverment relies on the USA to protect our asses and they've been cutting down on money for our national defense our soldier having to wear green camouflage in the gulf war that is totally unacceptable we are one of the highest taxed countries in the free world and our army has to use 30 -40 years old technology (sea king helicopter) we just bought 4 used, obsolite subs from the british navy for how many millions ???
We need some new blood to lead our country no more grandpa's with old ways and need 2 hours to decide what color tie their going to wear, it's complete crap.
And as far as the seperatiste movement here in Quebec, other CEG'er can confirm that movement is almost dead most ppl my age don't care we want to stay CANADIANS and mostly everybody is bilingual not just french,or the old mentality of "we are in Quebec you have to just speak french no english "
And to everybody in the USA that is protecting my ass i say:

T H A N K Y O U

i wouldnt be too sure about the iraqi people not liking sadaam. its not like theres a gallup poll over there. in any event, a us-iraqi war certainly isnt going to improve relations in the middle east any. i wonder if it will really protect us from terrorism at all?

my reply was to my fellow Canadian that is losing his national pride. I wanted to express my feelings of why i'm against the war. Now I may be wrong or right but that goes with your own personal believes, and I strongly belief war can be avoided like most of the world. Now you might see that war as the only solution and that will make your support to the war at any costs perfectly acceptable.
My message to Lbuzzer was "to ask him not to get mad and loose his national pride because some of us are against the war, just respect our decision even if you don't support us. I respect his opinions about the country and agree with most of them, but for those of us who have different opinions we should be heard and given respect too."
