Gotta get 3rd gear syncro fixed so im thinking while Terry has trans out I mine as well do the 3L, and since I wanna put a blower on it I should build an engine for it and throw that on as well. So I'm trying to do some research on what would be better for a SuperCharger...

2000+ 3L block w/ 3L heads, 3L U/LIM
what would I need to make the 3L UIM work with the SC, just a longer tube from SC to UIM? I dont think there is anyone running this, is there?

or other option im thinking about is...
late 98-99 3L block with 3L heads, SVT U/LIM, electric water pump(or 3L U/LIM if it will work with SC)

Who has aftermarket connecting rods? to be safe im thinking about replacing stock ones.

What would be the ideal C/R for SC? I was thinking lower then 10:1?

Are the guys with SC 3L's using stock pistons?

Thanks,
Mike

(used search, didnt find alot on SC'ing 3L)

The 3L UIM hasn't been used yet for an S/C that I'm aware of. Everyone is using an SVT U/LIM thus far. You would probably need to fab an extension or another tube all together to make it work correctly. For a block you want the 2001 and up if you're going to use all the 3L pieces including manifolds. Rods would be a good investment option. Contact nikolas@durectecperformance.com and he can hook you up with pauter rods. The CR I'm running is 10:1. So far I only know of one motor that is dropping the CR on a 3L and that is Jim Hahn going to 8.5:1. Everyone else is using stock pistons though I had mine cryo treated.

Thanks,
Rick

I am in no way an expert, but to be on the safe side, I would not any car with boost without using forged internals. The stock crank shaft is good to use with you application. However, I would definitly get forged rods and pistons. Also, from what I've been told, using a CR that high is just asking for trouble.

Also, is there a reason why you want to go S/C over T/C? Just curious.

Thanks,

You didn't find a lot on search since there's only two of them, Buckshot and Kinger. Neither have been completed to totally tuned condition yet, though Kinger's is being tuned now. Kinger is using a basically stock '99-'99 style 3L running mild boost. Buckshot will be running Cunningham rods with stock pistons (most internals cryo treated too though, including crank, rods, pistons, etc) with ported heads, headers, and a lot more.

As for your engine choice, make sure you don't use the 2000 3L engine. It doesn't have the same water pump location, plus it has the oval port heads. Just that much more fabrication for you needlessly, unless you really want the electric WP. Go with 2001 if you want oval port heads. The only mods needed to the SC system would be the IAC relocation (to clear the hood with the 3L UIM) and then a custom discharge tube. That's it! Larger injectors would be needed too as well as custom dyno tuning to get it to run right.

As for CR, unless you buy custom internals, there's really no point in lowering your compression because the power levels surpass the power handling of the crank before boost levels become a problem on the higher compression ratio. We believe the first weak link to be the rods, which is the direction Buckshot went...

We'll be using a complete 2001 3L and SC, things are finally under way. Old motor is out, tranny is rebuilt, just got to put them together. As Brad stated you really just need custom chip and the discharge tube to make the SC "fit"

Kinger has his currently being tuned, I think everyone is eagerly waiting his numbers. If you are looking for higher numbers the Turbo will yield better results, but at a higher price too.

FYI forged parts are usually not required with mild boost applications, I plan on running no more then 8psi and will probably feel better running 6-7 on a daily basis. We'll see what the numbers bring though hopefully by the end of the week or early part of next.

I offer PnP Heads for all durtec's details at PnPheads.com or jesse@pnpheads.com for details.

I'm leaning twards the SC to save some money, so I can upgrade the lower end.
Anyone on the boards do the cryo treating? always glad to give a fellow ceg'er some business.
I will probably stick with the stock pistons, keeping CR at 10:1 then. I want more power but still needs to be reliable.
What size injectors are you guys going to be running?

Kinger and I are running 42# to do away with the vortech fmu. I don't think anyone on here does cryo treating but I had mine done at 300 Below. They did a great job and have a good turnaround time as well. Also make sure you get the engine balanced for the new rods as well.

I went to 300below.com, this cryo treating sounds very cool, I hadnt heard of it before. So getting this done to the 3L crank and pistons looks like a good idea. Wrist pins also?
Rick you had it done to your pauter rods too?

Who's a good source for 42lb injectors? dealership?

Also who else sells the SC kit? SP has it for 3,699.00 (satin)
