On the thermostat: Why were we replacing it? and why with a different temp?
I'd read that it's a good idea to replace it when doing a drain/flush/fill or waterpump replacement. I did both. 190deg was the consensus on CEG.
Best check of thermostat operation is still to boil on stove in pot of water. As much fun as watching paint dry or grass grow combined, but effective.

Was your old thermo the original one? I have never replaced mine and am surprised its 180deg.
I was also surprised. I'd thought 190 for temperate climate.
But what about that plunger/extensor/thingee that I mentioned? Is that normally included only with a 180 degree thermostat?? Thanks for your input!!!
