Thanks for letting me know that. I just have experience with a few muscle cars, and I know that an aftermarket tach is a big improvement over the factory ones. I guess the signal that the tach is getting is just slow and since the aftermarket tach will just be tapping into the same signal, it wont be any improvement. I'll stick to getting a shift light then

Good Luck with the install.

The stock tach is in fact innacurate AND slow. I know this because I could see the difference when I had my S-AFC, which had a digital tach.
All the same monster tach are silly.

Exactly. Also mount it in the vent to to keep it out of sight!
Those oversized tachs are just tachy bling, bling. Eyesore candy for those that need it.
Besides if you are going to wire into a tach signal get it from the PCM feed. My "digital" S-AFC reads the correct rpm all the time while the stock tach is most definitely SLOW!
Honestly I can shift by engine sound alone. The S-AFC's peak hold is proof to that.

Has anyone considered attempting to replace the stock tachometer mechanism, with a more accurate after market one? I mean inside the guage cluster. I know you'd probably need custom guage faces so the numbers would line up correctly, but I'm sure it could be done?

Actually that would make the stock tach SLOWER as the engine is revving up quicker.
The tach can't keep up with a stock engine. That's the problem.

Yes, the stock tach will read about 6800 RPM when fuel cutoff occurs when in 1st at full accel. First time this happened to me I almost had a heart attack!
