How long does the install take? I'm assuming it's not too difficult (nothing like installing a 3.0 ). I've just got limited time tonight and am not sure whether to start the project or not...
Thanks!

i dont mean to hijack your post, but i've always wondered what a tranny cooler was and what its benefits were. could anyone post any links?
now officially a troll, i guess. used to have a black 96 SE, until it broke down one too many times.
now I'm hunting for a motorycle.

Searching, as I did earlier today, turns up quite a bit. Basically an Air to Oil cooler, like the one RoadRunner has, will keep the temperature of the ATX oil down to about 150F. The CD4E is prone to overheating on the freeway, which will quickly break down the oil and then the parts I've already burned up one ATX, and I'm looking to do whatever I need to to protect the one I have now.

Easily a 1 hour install, but be warned: Take your time! Or you will be sorry. The radiator can be easliy broken.

I'm wondering if the install is much easier on a Zetec than on a Duratec? I'm not a true mechanic, just a weekend warrior, so I may just have my tranny shop do the install anyway. The rebuilt tranny I have is warranteed for another year, and I'd hate to void that by modifying it.

Installing an ATX Oil Cooler should not void your transmission warranty. If you aren't sure if it will or not, the best thing to do is to have the shop that rebuilt your transmission install a cooler that they recommend. You can always go with a cooler that is larger than what they recommend as long as it will fit behind the bumper.

Well I did the install that night and everything went fine... I didn't mess with any of the fittings going into the radiator in fear of breaking them; instead I just used a tubing cutter and split the return line right in the middle and then plumbed it in there. It made the tube routing pretty easy.
Three days later, no leaks and there is a huge difference in the send and return tranny lines. The cooler seems to be working!

The trans hose lines enter and leave the radiator on the passenger side right? There is one near the top and one farther down at the bottom. Which one is the return line and which is the entry line? I believe the top one is the entry and bottom is return - but want to make sure.

Where and how did you mount the cooler? I looked at mine and gave up years ago!
