I recall many discussions about temperature gauges getting high before fans cut it. My gauge never moves, but it is probably programmed to stay in a certain position for a "normal" range of temperagures. I also recall somebody saying that the specs were something like 215-low fans 234-high fans. Those numbers prob aren't exactly right, but is there anyway to modify it so that the engine temp never gets above 210 or so? I know you would have to mess with the engine computer programming, but is there a way to do that without taking it to Ford and paying a million dollars? I don't really care about fuel economy that much, but I would rather have my engine running cooler. By the way, I have a 99 Duratec SE Sport. I would like something perhaps where low fans came in at 200 degree water temp and high fans came on at 210 degrees water temp. Does that sound reasonable? Any help or input would be appreciated. P.S. My car does still have the stock thermostat and it works fine.

you can't reprogram the computer to turn on the fans at selected temperatures - but you could have it turn on the high speed fans at 214 instead of the low speed fans with a little rewiring...

Say what???

You can program the PCM (via chip or custom reflashing) to turn the fans on & off at any temperature you wish!
Each fan is independantly controlled as well.

Stock settings are:

Primary Fan On: 216 - Off: 212

Secondary Fan On: 228 - Off: 220

Thats interesting. How would you go about doing something like that, do and do you have any reccomendations. The fans on my car always operate in unison, and I think I prefer it that way although I know they have the capability to operat independently. If you have a chance DemonSVT, please email me at jbopp@attbi.com so I can understand this a bit more. Thanks.

Geezz with the EWP Water Pump and Controller my fans never even come on at all. Maybe if I'm idling for about 5min. or more than it may possibly come on but were talking little to not heatsoak thanks to no hot air blowing directly at the filter anymore. I have it up for sell though I'm debating the possibility of keeping it and just putting back in....

I read your previous post demonsvt, what I meant was how do you program the pcm, what tools do you need? etc. I was just looking for a little more detail lol. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You need to have a tuner capable of making chips do it.

I'm not one for PCM reflashing. It's ALWAYS nice to have a baseline - chips are removable!

Currently there is no self programmable chip openly available.

Well it works for only a couple of our PCM codes.

However for 100% coverage they would need to have access to 100% of the PCM's. (I.E. have folks send it to them so they could copy the binary off it)

Also they are currently hard at work writing all the code for the RT version of all their covered codes. (I.E. little time for hammering out each individual processor strategy )

I can tell all the XGT1 folks for the most part they only have 2 areas left to figure out though.
1 large (rev limiter ) and 1 minor (knock sensor)
Pretty much every thing else is fairly well accounted for. A lot accounted for to the extreme (definitely a STEEP & possible Dangerous learning curve)
