I don't have a camera to show you guys, but there is rust growing on the bottom inside of my doors, a thin strip right beneath the drainage holes along the lip in the metal! It is only visible if I open the doors and peer under the rubber seals. Has anyone else seen this before? I'm guessing it's just surface rust from water coming out of the drainage holes, hopefully this plague is not taking root inside my doors!

I've noticed that on mine too! Kinda scary, but I garage mine and try to keep rust off so hopefully it won't show for another 10 years!

I have rust there as well. I also have rust on both rear doors right where the window weather stripping is on the bottom left hand corner.
My Finace's Subaru was made in 1994 and never has been garaged and has been through 2 winters in Idaho, 3 winters in Denver and 5 winter in Boston. NO RUST ANYWHERE

My old '98 Tour had the same thing. I was always wondering how bad it really was.

For those who's problems with rust haven't yet happened or are not yet out of control, use the CEG search feature, search "All Forums", and use "Undercoat" as the search word.
The post you want to read (mine) is "Moving From Sunbelt to Rustbelt", dated 3/15/03

Just enough to cover their cars and their ass ... The owner has to take it from there.

Yep...got that under the rear doors too and under the hood. Took it to ford at 65000kms (5000kms after the orignal warranty ended, have to 120k on extended) and they said it is now covered under the "Rust Purferation Warranty" and the only way they will do something is if there is actually a hole through the panel. Got the same answer from 3 dealers....what BS!!!!!

Good or bad paint has nothing to do with rust problems on 1998 and newer tours . In 1998 ford discontented or stopped sealing the door , hood and trunk sheet-metal skins. No sealing around the inside doors = rust . Check out 1995 to 1997 tours inside doors and you will see the difference. I am not talking about the rubber seal .... Do not forget to check your trunk lids as they will rust also . DO a search and you will find articles about people sealing their door sheetmetal on the inside edges to try to head-off the rust problem on 98 + tours ...... My 95 tour ... No rust. So after your 98+ tour totally rusts out in 2 years or so Go to a salvage yard and get doors off a 95 to 97 tour which will have no rust and put them on your car
