My sons 98 Contour SE turn signals won't work. Flashers work fine, manual shows no fuse for turn signals, but shows a relay. Have replaced relay, they still don't work. Have removed each fuse under the hood and under the dash - none are blown. Any ideas? Is this another Contour problem? He also has a blown Heater & anti-lock brake 60 amp fuse but this may be a recall item and I will check this through a local dealer.

Turn signal switch? Are brake lights OK?
There is a recall on the heater blower resistors.

Brake lights are OK. Yes, it has occurred to me that it might be the switch, but seems unlikely. The blower motor deal is not a recall, only an extended warranty up to 72,000 miles. We bought the car with 73,200 on it. Working between Ford dealers and the used car dealer where we bought it to come to a resolution. Car goes to Ford dealer tor troubleshooting & parts list/price on Wed.

Take that car to your dealer or a Ford tech shop, and tell them to replace that 60 amp fuse with a black 80 amp fuse. I had the same goddamn problem, and it just astounds me that Ford would put in a 60 amp fuse controlling your ABS and your heater blower at the same time.

Let me guess: The fuse blew when the ABS kicked in right?

Have replaced the 60 amp fuse with a new one, did it ourselves (real pain). Fuse is good, blower motor still does not work. We have no idea why the fuse blew in the first place, just knew that the blower motor didn't work anymore. Car goes to Ford garage tomorrow for: 1) recall to install front spring shields? (they inspect parts & repair any problems); 2) diagnose blower motor problem & develop list of parts (have to deal with used car dealer); 3) diagnose turn signal problem (maybe fix that one too depending on whats found to be wrong before son gets ticket). Will let ya know what develops.

There is a 30amp blower fuse on the interior fuse panel which is in series with the one you just replaced. Why a pain wasn't it just a plug-in fuse in the engine compartment fuse box?

I too am blowing the 60 amp ABS/heater fuse.

I cringe at the thought that the ABS system is NG. Does the 80 AMP fuse actually solve the problem, or am I covering up another one. This didn't happen until the car was 3 years old.
I had noticed the low 'buzz' when first moving in the morning, wasn't happening anymore. It was my understanding that it was the ABS activating.

2. I think Ford put the blower and ABS on the same fuse so you didn't ignore a brake problem by leaving the bad fuse in. Just a guess.

I recently had a problem with my turn signals also. Sometimes they would work intermittently and sometimes not at all. The flasher (located in the steering wheel for some reason) was the first solution to the problem, but it turned out to be the socket that the flasher went in to. The flasher seems to wiggle around in it a little causing the blinkers to not work right. My dad (i'm 19 and this is my first car) did a quick fix by twisting the prongs on the flasher a little bit, and i haven't had problems with it in the past few days. Getting to the flasher isn't hard. You only have to take out 3 screws on the bottom of steering wheel. If you push in on the flasher when you turn on the turn signals you should be able to tell if that is the problem.

I went through 3 60amp fuses before switching to the 80amp. Not a problem since. Someone else on the site said that this was also Fords fix for the problem.

we took the car to a local ford dealer and the problem turned out to be a blown 15 watt fuse under the dash... everything is working right except for today on our way home from school the exhaust carcked someplace under the drivers seat... any solutions to fix the new problem..??
