I just received two Motorcraft OEM O2 sensors for my 95 Duratec. I purchased them from
www.fordpartsonline.com. They were $53 each and the shipping was $6.00.
I don't have any CELs or anything. I have done several careful mileage checks over the past month and have noticed my "eggshells on the gas pedal" highway mileage is down about 1.5 mpg. This is with correct inflation for tires, no A/C and no lights. Ambient temperature about 55-65F. I was willing to spend $100 from my "Contour R&D budget" as I am curious what effect if any I will see. My car has 107K miles on it.
There are two sensors for this motor (95), one on each exhaust manifold. The one closest to the radiator looks easiest to get from under the vehicle, while the one near the passenger compartment looks easiest from the top after removal of the coil pack (easy - just remove 4 bolts). You will also need a 7/8 slotted socket designed for oxygen sensor removal/installation. You might be able to borrow or rent this. A new one is around $13. An open ended 7/8 inch wrench may work as well, and obviously will have more use in the future!
I will post the mileage effect, if any, at a future date. Of course, if there is no change, I will mention that "the idle is smoother", "the engine lost its hesitation", "it no longer pings", or some other "keen" observation!
Good Luck
