i was wondering what is 'normal' for the duratec to idle at (mtx if that makes a difference). i was sitting in my car tonight waiting for a parking spot (damn university parking!) and noticed i'm idling at 750, but like clockwork, every 22 seconds it revs up to 1000, then back down. is this normal?

i'm right around 800rpm or so.
i do get periodic surges up to about 1000rpm but then it settles down. not sure about the frequency though.

Whatever rpm I choose! Which is 850rpm. I also have a high idle setting of 1100rpm for cold weather. (pin hole for a TH fix's only flaw) Stock idle setting for the MTX is 720rpm & ATX is 800rpm.

I know exactly what your talking about hundog. It only happens when you have the AC or Defrost running (defrost runs the AC compressor). As far is I know, its natural.

Mine idles at around 650 once it settles down. Don't know why, but it's always been on the low side.

You AC system needs recharging, You will eventually find the engine starts doing this more frequently and also at a higher top rev. I have seen this twice on UK Mondeo's recharging the AC sorted this out, Also it didn't need AC selected for the problem to show it was there all of the time, but not too noticable when driving.
