Before today, I have always had mechanics change the oil on my car. Today was the first time that I have ever changed the oil on the Contour.

When I removed the oil pan drain plug, I noticed that the drain plug had rubber around the bottom edge of the bolt head. Sort of like an o-ring/gasket built onto the bolt.

Is the OEM drain plug supposed to have rubber on the end of the bolt head? Or is this a drain plug that was replaced by some mechanic?

I also noticed a plastic washer between the drain plug and oil pan.

Is this normal? Should there be a washer there?

It seems odd to have both a rubber piece on the drain plug AND a plastic washer.

OEM has rubber wrapped bolt head, no additional washer.

There was old thread on this I'll see if I can find and add via edit.

Sorry, couldn't find it.

The one you described IS the stock one. The ones with seperate gaskets are cheaper ones.
