Thanks for the info. After I thought about it I realized I couldn't add V without a full flush, so I did just go with the regular Mercon/Dexron III stuff.
What I took out was brown and muddy, kinda like opaque coca-cola. This is at 43K miles. I plan to drain the 4 qts in the pan again at the next oil change and evaluate.
The car shifts much better now.

Ford cannot build a car like this (1966 tbird) today because the US government says it is not safe. It has no crumple zones, air bags, or other safety features such as what you'll find in say, a new Toyota. But hit a Toyota with one of these and see who loses! - Gary Tayman
