There is nothing different "looking" about the new pump. Where did this info come from??? Anyone have any hard data on this? Procyon???
The normal Duratec oil pump is quite amazing & efficient to begin with. Not only that but is driven at a 1 to 1 ratio. (twice as fast as most pumps) The oiling system is very over-engineered.
I hope this doesn't turn out to be some downgrade engineering like the "new" oil pan is! Knowing Ford though who knows...

David Z posted (quite a while ago) about a new oil pump on 2001+ 3L Duratecs. I know that when I bought a new oil pump from Bill Jenkins (thinking it wasn't part of the short block assembly), it was the same as my old oil pump. However, it was definitely different than the pump that came on my Jan 01 manufactured 3L block. FWIW

Dom, I know it matters about the heads. I'm using 2.5 heads on the 3L shortblock. If the 2000, having the same part number as the 2001, has the water pump on the front end, then I need to use and electric water pump. I want to use the mechanical drive water pump with the 2.5 heads.

SETour95, I think you are confused... Or are you just confusing us???
Any year 3L block from '98+ can be used with the 2.5 heads and the factory 2.5L water pump mounted on the left bank cylinder head. This is what's known within our community as a hybrid swap. No electric pump needed.
The electric pumps only come into play if you're using the 3L heads from '98-'00 as a full 3L swap and has nothing to do with your hybrid 3L plans. Or, if you wanted every last bit of HP and you can swap out the factory water pump anyway for the electric one.

Ok, I understand now!! I was under the impression that they relocated the waterpump location in the block for the '01's. Hell, if that's NOT the case, then that makes me a very happy camper. Sorry for the confusion everyone, honest. I was just misunderstanding stuff.

That's O.K. to be confused, that's what we're here for. The water pump location isn't critical on these engines because the WP doesn't mount directly to the block, like say... a small block Chevy or Ford V8. The Duratec WPs are mounted to bracketry to the head, or the front of the block, and connected to the block's water passages only by water hoses and/or cross over tubes/etc. That in itself makes this swap very easy to adapt to your needs.

I can't believe it, but I am still looking for a 3L. A new shortblock was $1340 + $500 core at the dealer. Call me paranoid, but do you think a 2.5L would pass as a 3L for the core?
Escape and Taurus the same price. Any more leads? I considered a salvage yard, but figure $500-600 more for an all new may be worth it.
Thanks
