I just got a 480 watt Pioneer amplifier, and I am using it with my factory head unit and after-market Pioneer 280 watt speakers. I was wondering if I had to hook this baby up to the factory amplifier, or if I just bypass the factory amp all together?? I didn't know if the HU needed the factory amp with an aftermarket one. Also, how the hell do I hook the HU to the Pioneer amp?? The only input is RCA, but the factory HU does not have RCA jacks. How do I connect? I am pretty new at this, but I am learning something new everyday

I think you would want to bypass the factory amp. as far as the HU and the RCA preout go...id buy a new HU, the factory ones suck . i dont know how you would hook it up w/out it having the preouts on the HU.

You can use the low level outputs on the factory HU as the inputs for your amp. You'll have to cut an RCA cable to do it. Then, wire in the Pioneer amp's outputs AFTER the factory amp (bypassing it) or run new wires directly to the new speakers.
Figuring out the low-level leads from the HU and connecting them to an RCA cable might be a challenge unless someone on the board has got the color codes (you might want to use the search feature).

After browsing around on Pioneer's website, it seems that the majority of their amplifier product line contain high level inputs. So you could just hook up the amplifier without the use of RCA if you really want to go that route. However, you'll be sacrificing sound quality.
Colin has a point. You could use the low level outputs from the factory deck with a little work, if you're dead set on keeping the factory deck. You could also you a line driver off the factory deck to boost your factory head unit signal.
If you were open to replacing the deck for a minimal cost, I would go that route! You won't be disappointed and a lot of users on these boards have made some excellent recommendations without burning your finances. The factory head unit sucks.

The model number is GM-X654
And where are these low level inputs?? The only input this thing has is RCA, and my HU does not have RCA outputs. But I did find a part at Wal-Mart that looks like it would do the trick....$17.87......
And I don't really know if I want an aftermarket HU. I had a Pioneer..... I can't remember the model number but it was $200., had 50x4 watts..... and I bypassed the factory amp, and it just didn't sound that good.... it was not worth $200..... so I returned it and spent the money on this baby......
