I have a 96 zetec with ATX. Was wondering what is the sensor called that sits on top of the tranny directly under air filter box, it has a round multi plug going to it. :p
Thanks in advance smile

Sounds like the MLPS (manual lever position sensor). It is also known as the transmission range sensor. Prior to electronic controls, it was know as the neutral safety switch. The MLPS tells the processor what gear you have selected.

Big Jim

I'm assuming you are not talking about the big round one with the cable in it that is about 3" in diameter, but the one that is 1" in diameter?

The sensor or whatever it is with a connector with wires comming from it located on top of the transmission directly under the air filter housing on my SVT, I removed the connector by accident one day and while disconnected my reverse lights didn't work.
