No, we just used the policy that so many nations used, if it's not on our doorstep, ignore it. That is, until a couple people decided to fly planes into the WTC and pentagon, then we realized we can't sit back and react to threats, we need to go out an eliminate them.
There was no luck involved in the allies winning, it was the industrial might of the United States that overwhelmed the axis.
