Can someone please offer some their ideas. My Car is in pristine condition as witnessed by the mechanic that looked at my broken engine. He said that he had never see this before and that usually a throw rod is preceded by a bad looking clutch / fly wheel or poor oil changes. There was ABSOLUTELY no abnormal wear on the clutch or fly wheel. In fact they're in great condition he said. I had clean Mobil 1 in. Folks I have 65K on my SVT and I'm looking at $6000 if I can't get Ford Customer Service to understand. Any ideas would be welcome.

I just did an engine swap. Bought a 98.5 motor with 34k on it for 1200.00 including freight, and paid my mechanic 750.00 to do the swap. Lot cheaper than 6000.00 wink

Junkyard or retailer? Could you please give me the number for the place you got the engine from. Thanks!

Message to JRS. I have the same problem, I have a '98 SVT with 37,000 miles on it. I started hearing a ticking noise, went to the dealer who said the bearings were bad, and that I need a new motor. they quoted $4,900. for a shortblock. I argued that the car was in excellent condition, and had the oil changed about two weeks prior. Valvoline noted no problems, and oil changed out was up to the proper level. Now Easy Care is saying it's my fault, unknown why it happened, but since they can't show a broken part, they're saying it's my fault. So far, I'm up tothe claims manager with Easy Care, next stop is the president of the company, Larry Dorfman. If anyone else is having this kind of problem with the Duratec's going bad because of an alleged maintenance problem, or problems with Easy Care, please let me know.

I just got a call today with a very similar problem. I started hearing the ticking noise at 4K+ rpm. So I took the car into Ford and they claim a pin in the rod in cylinder 1 had gone bad and are putting in a new motor at no charge. The manager went on to tell me that if I did not take car of the problem, I would have thrown a rod. Good luck.
