After my little trip to the dealer on Friday and subsequent phone call to Ford Quality Care service, I have come to a greater understanding of F

rd's service. They will NOT replace your wire harness unless THEY feel that it is causing a problem, and yes they will charge you a "diagnostic" fee to check it. Here's the kicker. It doesn't matter if you have one exposed and cracking wire or (in my case) SEVEN. They will not fix it unless something else is broken. Because as the Rep at Ford QC said "how long should be extend a warranty on parts" when I asked him what I should do about it when it shorts out something on 105K and is no longer covered. Of all the condescending, patronizing BS If a part is "recalled" I think that 'should' mean that Ford recognizes that there is a problem-- after all, engines aren't recalled, trannys, timing belts and brake rotors aren't recalled. So everyone beware, Ford will not fix the wire harness unless something is broken- not just cracked wires either. A letter to the BBB is on its way out tomorrow. I'm thinking my next car WON'T be a Ford.
