DO NOT beat on the brake drums. Instead, invest in a good brake drum puller (it looks like a large version of a steering wheel puller), save your self the hassle & save your brake drums (if they are worth saving)!
I don't remember the cost of the puller since I've had mine for a long time, but they are worth it @ any price.....my $.02...
