About 1990 I went to Midas for free brake check. Was a car I bought new and original brakes were on it...had maybe 50 or 60K mi on it. They come up with like $400. Original rotors supposedly could not be turned as they would not be thick enough when finished. One caliper sticking so you got to replace both.
I say well since you are telling me everything needs to be replaced I may as well keep driving with what I got as I am not going to damage any usable parts.
There was a dealer I trusted at the time went there and they say just need to replace pads and resurface rotors. I kept that car for 122,000 mi and the only other brake work was another resurfacing of the rotors a few years later.
I have not set foot in a midas since.
