About 1990 I went to Midas for free brake check. Was a car I bought new and original brakes were on it...had maybe 50 or 60K mi on it. They come up with like $400. Original rotors supposedly could not be turned as they would not be thick enough when finished. One caliper sticking so you got to replace both.

I say well since you are telling me everything needs to be replaced I may as well keep driving with what I got as I am not going to damage any usable parts. laugh

There was a dealer I trusted at the time went there and they say just need to replace pads and resurface rotors. I kept that car for 122,000 mi and the only other brake work was another resurfacing of the rotors a few years later.

I have not set foot in a midas since.

Stock rotors do not take a turning. If they do, they end up being right at or just less than spec. My advice is to just get some new ones from the auto parts store. Mine where like $25 a piece. This is a non-SVT by the way.

I just changed all 4 discs and pads last week. Myself and a buddy did it (I've never done brakes before, he has). It took 9 hrs but that was due to the disks being practically welded to the hubs thru corrosion, probably road-salt induced.

~$205 to my door for 4 discs (EBC fronts) and Mintex A/F pads all round from BAT.

Now the brakes have a real nice bite to them.
