I know ours is a mazda designed engine.

Most definitely!

The new Mazda 6 has an over rated version of FORD's 3L Duratec (no H) engine in it.

Mazda had NOTHING to do with the design or building of the Duratec line of engines. It was a Porsche designed engine using Cosworth casting technology and Ford came in only to screw it up a little at the end. (the gist of a long story)

The Duratec in the new 6 is a stock FORD 3L Duratec short block with Mazda designed (or reworked) heads & VVT. Also from the looks of it's dyno numbers I'm glad they didn't have anything to do with the original Duratec design!
