I'm putting new plugs in this weekend. Been using about .045, but am thinking about closing it down a bit. Possibly about .040. Vortech recommends .032, and it runs great at that gap, but the plugs wear out too quick for it to be practicle for me.

Just curious

.035 is my gap. I would rather my plugs wear out than my motor.. When I gapped at .040 I got alot of surging.

Running .035. Much wider and you get serious spark scatter under boost.

I ran fine on .045 on my SE when it was SC'ed, but then I had hardly anything else for mods at the time either. It also depends on gas quality in your area, altitude, etc.

I say, try .040, and if you notice no change, switch back to what you were running if it didn't have any problems.

I get a bit of surging in the high rpms now. I guess this could be a result of the bigger gap. I will see if the smaller gap will help that situation any. If not, I'll stick with .045.

Thanks for all the replies.

.045 for normal daily use. .032-.035 for track use.

I'm at .045 right now, but I too am getting some surging at about 6k rpms. I think I'm going to try .035.

A .045 is an extremely huge gap to run on an FI'd motor. I experienced blown-out spark at .040. I don't have alot done outside of the S/C, currently. I am not using a larger MAF or Mustang TB. I have an optimized TB and stock manifolds (Yes, I even have the Cats) on a fair sized (Bassani) exhaust with a custom y-pipe. We have tractor gas here in AZ, but I mix with racing gas to equal 94 or so.

BTW- Fst4Dr- How fast is too fast when you speak of plugs wearing out? They change in a snap and they are cheap as hell, relatively speaking.

I'd run .035 and a 1/2 step or full step colder personally.
