I too had a crack in the oil pan. As far as I know, the oil pan was layered aluminum that could crack if the drain plug was tightened too much. I had to replace my oil pan when this happened to me. Ford wanted $150 (Canadian) for the pan but I was able to get one from a scrap yard for $50. Good luck.
