Little late to be asking eh?
I remember I asked about casting numbers. I know it was answered by procyon, but that was about 4-6 months ago.

What year is the motor?
It's kinda hard to tell by just looking at it, u can have a 96 an a 99+ sitting next to each and they will look identical. I was helping someone out with one and we didn't find out that it was the wrong one untill we tried to bolt up the tranny...

It's out of a 98.
I found procyon's post... so hopefully I'll know tomorrow if it's the right engine. Thanks for the quick replies everyone...
Casting #'s
Just for the sake of argument - if I did buy the wrong engine... what if I just used it anyway? 8 or 9 out of 10 bolts can't be wrong....

The only hole you will have any problem with is the one directly above the locating pin on the right bank (The bank closest to us in the picture). Leave that bolt out and you'll be fine, or have someone fill the area with aluminum for you to drill and tap for a bolt. No worries either way. That's how mine's been running for almost two years and 20K or so miles.
