I installed a GMB metal impeller WP on my Contour yesterday using the instructions provided under FAQ - HOW TO. Cost was $59.64 shipped to my doorstep. Went pretty well, but the only issue which caught me by surprise was the well attached old gasket material. When I tapped the WP housing to separate it, 90% of the old gasket remained attached to the side of the pump which attaches to the engine (Murphy strikes again!). I spent an hour carefully removing that stuff using a single edge razer blade - end result was very good but process was very tedious. Just curious how an "experienced car guy" or Ford service would have removed the old gasket removal.

Thank you

i use a razor blade, just like u. just be careful not to cut into the surface otherwise you're bound to get leaks when you reseal the pump.

I use a putty knife....flexable enough to get the material off yet not sharp enough to gouge out the material.

I used a razor blade to get the chunky gasket material off, as best as I could.
For the material that was resistant, I used a wire brush, and really fine grit sand paper, to sand away.

Then I finished the pump body mating surface off
with a flat sanding/polishing block,
and checked it for flatness.

No leaks yet !!!
