Help me out guys, the 01 duratech V6 that comes in contours (non SVT) also is in the 01 cougar V6's right? Now the diffeerence between that engine and the SVT contour is the extrude honed intake manifold and 19# injectors? Here's what Im trying to do....HELP!!
I own an 01 COugar V6 (this is the BEST duratech forum). Looking to swap on the 98 SVT upper and lower intake manifold and throttle body for better flow, I also want to put on the 19# injectors but the 98 parts that I am buying come with return (non-returnless) fuel injectors and arn't compatable right? Then all I need is mid 99+ SVT injectors and I've got the swap right? Help me out guys, I just sold my 2000 Mustang GT and want to upgrade my cougar.

the duratec that was put in the contour stopped in 00, but yes the 170 hp duratech is the same as the cougar duratech.

i wouldnt bother swapping the 19lb injectors, theyll give u no benefits. read here, it will tell you all u need to know. as for the intake manifolds, get a 00 UIM, since it got a second round of extrude honing unlike the 98 your thinking about swapping.

btw, just a rule of thumb. theres no need to post in two areas. your questions will get answered.

So from what I've been told I basically need:
00 SVT UIM (2 rounds of extrude honing),98+ SVT LIM and throttle body. THats it though? I thought I'd need more fuel for the intake I've got, the new manifolds and the headers/Y-pipe and exhaust?

your 16lb injectors are not even close to being maxed out yet, so there is no need to upgrade. im not sure if the LIM got a couple mm's bigger or not through out the svt's life. heres the engine differences that i can think of off head:

extrude honed UIM
bigger LIM
60 mm TB
19lb injectors
lightened flywheel
quasi dual exhaust
bigger inlet to cat
primary port of heads were extrude honed
bumped compression to 10:1, then later to 10.25:1 in 2000
hotter cams
conical filter

98/98.5 SVT has a SH UIM
99/00 SVT had a DH UIM

98/98.5/early 99 SVT had a 31mm/32mm LIM
late 99/00 had a 33.5mm/35mm (3L) LIM... ...as does YOUR 01 Cougar!

DO NOT downgrade to the smaller "early" SVT LIM.

There is no need to upgrade your injectors just to do it. You would need to be around 170 FWHP or better to be "needing" the 19lb injectors.

Also if you are going to upgrade to the DH UIM you should definitely get the SVT TB and associated parts needed for install.

Sorry About cross posting...Your info was VERY valuable. Thanks too much. Where's the best place to get the UIM for cheap and do you think the dual Hone is THAT much of a difference? ANd what do you think of the mods I have planned? Any suggestions (like the weapon R ecu?)..

Yes most definitely get the DH UIM. Only place to get it now is from a stealership. $$$ Expect to be bent over.

Whatever you do stay AWAY from Weapons-Rice products. They are garbage.
Their "so-called" ecu is nothing more than a glorified chip.
For the cost of their POS you could have a custom chip dyno tuned to YOUR car and buy almost $300 worth of other mods. (Y-pipe, MAF adapter, K&N, BAT pipe - for example!)

Do not buy the AEM filter stuff. I strongly recommend the parts I listed above.

As for plugs & wires

Motorcraft AGSF32PPM or Autolite APP764. $3.99 each - double platinum. Don't fall for the "fancy" plug's BS claims!

Magnecor, Stock, or FMS wires. Again don't fall for the BS claims of others!

BTW - SVT TB is 60mm. DO not buy a 65mm TB

Would it be cheaper to send my single extrude honed intake manifold to be double or even triple extrude honed (as some ppl have done ) ?

i luckily got on a groub buy for the SVT UIM, TB, gaskets, etc. got about a 55% discount overall. iirc, the svt uim listed at about $700.

No!

IMO EHing any manifold other then a DH UIM is a complete waste of money.

At $400-450 per pass you would be spending a fortune to make your's a triple honed. (Yes that's $800-900 plus shipping both ways!)
A stock to triple honed = $1200-1350
Even if you got a insider deal you are still looking at $650+ & $1000+ respectively to make it a triple honed.

Now you see why buying a DH UIM will always be cheaper compared to trying to make one yourself.
Buying them for $330 (BAT's old price IIRC) was highway robbery!!!

However with that said this is also why Ford may be considering not carrying the SVT UIM's anymore. IIRC they are back ordered indefinitely.
They probably got a killer deal when buying the EH process in bulk for 20-25,000 manifolds (15k+ production (SVT/ST200) plus 01 ST200 order) but I doubt they will get such a deal on a small restock order.
If they can't turn a large profit you know they won't do it just to carry a specialty part for a defunct car 3 years out of production.
