Intrinsic Radiation or INRAD is the radiation emitted from the fissionable material inside a nuclear weapon (usually it is used in casual conversation in reference only to radiation that escapes the weapon case). It is a hazard to humans and electronics and is not a major problem with US designs. It is why you wear a counter in the WSA (weapon storage area).
I spent my four years as an Air Force officer at Los Alamos and the Ballistic Missile Office working on countermeasure technology to (at that time) potential Soviet SDI like missile defense systems.
