I just put a new steering wheel on last weekend, so I had to pull the airbag. Ford specifically recommends 20 minutes of power off. Make sure you carry the airbag with the cover facing away from yourself and anyone else. When setting the airbag down, place it with the cover facing up.
Otherwise, its pretty easy to pull. Just 2 Torx screws in the back of the wheel and its out.
