The power demand of an electric supercharger is in the same ballpark as a starter motor. In fact, you might be able to use a starter motor for the job, if you geared it up enough. The system certainly can't provide "continuous" power at this level, but it can certainly handle, say, a 20 second burst at WOT.

I would use, like, an electronic regulator that starts adding a pinch of boost at 60% throttle, a couple of pounds at 80%, and whatever upper limit you want to set at WOT. You'd need a motor controller (not a cheap item), and it might help to create a secondary battery system that takes power from the 12 volt system to store a 96 volt charge. Otherwise you need a really beefy controller box, like those used in smaller electric cars, just to handle the amps, though the total power is small by its standards.

Or you could just switch it from off to full power at 95% throttle, NOS-wise. Save hundreds of bucks by giving up the pretensions of being smooth like a turbo.

Where an electric supercharger could really shine is in a hybrid car, which already has a high-powered electrical system. Combine it with an exhaust turbine powered alternator, and you have a decoupled turbocharger. That's the system I want to build: a hybrid with a turbine alternator.

Oh no, you didn't!!! The CFM listed in that auction is barely enough to perform at idle, let alone WOT! Cancel the auction payment, take the bad wrap on your Ebay account. That's a pile-o-crap!

I have actual dyno proof that the E-ram worked for my Contour SE to the tune of 9HP peak and lots more off peak with the same intake pipe and filter on the car for both runs. I don't see this guy's dyno proof that it didn't work, as he claims it didn't. He knows a little about thermal dynamics, but very little about electrical loading (saying it only pulls about 15 amps, DUH! He measured it free air!!!). He can't even dechypher Mark's email correctly RE: the unit pictured vs. as pictured. Very little information on that linked page...

People need to learn that major performance comes at a price. I too looked into an E-ram, but I was designing my own that would throw about 8lbs of boost. RC electric jets can produce from 1-14lbs of thrust. I am into RC jets (designing and building) and got the idea one day (when I had a POS pontiac Fiero) to make a custom mount to run an RC electric Jet engine producing 5lbs of thrust to my airbox. I noticed a major difference, but it was not a reliable way to do it, and running it at high throttle would wear the electric motor down way too fast. You would be replacing E-ram motors every 1-2 weeks with normal driving. I had my wifes uncle who is an electrical engineer for Texas instruments help me out. We found out the hard way that an E-ram that would put out more than 1.5lbs of thrust would take too much juice. I ended up scrapping the project and using my special 8lb e-ram to build an RC vertical take off jet (which has chrashed a few times during testing, oh well).

I looked at some of the larger "electric jets", but for real boost, one is going to have to use something like a Vortech compressor.

40,000rmp ?? rpm?

Still, you are going to buy a $50 plastic fan and spin it at 40,000 rpm for your car to have forced induction? Are you talking about the gas powered cars or electric? You'll need a separate tank for the fuel for your little car engine.

Wouldn't it be better just buying the e-ram since we know it works?

Then again it would be better if you just bought $550 nitrous kit, they work and work well.
