So....just returned from the dealer, where, at my (your) suggestion, they checked the IAC valve.

Nothing showed up on the computer, but when they, in their words, "played with it," they found it was indeed, "binding." So, with new IAC valve in place - no charge, warranty - we'll see how it goes.

RPMs are still somewhat slow to drop, but that's just the usual throttle hang, I believe. I'll do the fix one of these days.

Thanks again for the input!

Give it a few days to relearn the new IAC settings (I assume the dealer pulled the battery cable) and the RPM hang should get somewhat better.

The service guy did mention they'd "recalibrated" something or other...I assume it was the ECM.

Anyway, the RPMs are behaving pretty much the way they did when I first got the car...at least I got rid of the g**d**n "sticking" thing.

I have the same problem, except my 'tour doesn't hang like its on cruise. It does take forever for the revs to drop to 750 like you were saying. My guess is a sticky TB, try giving that a check to see if it is binding.

OK I had the same thing 6 months ago (99 CSVT). The dealer replaced the IAC and some "new code". Problem went away until last week when the surge came back. Its ok to be replacinging IAC's every 6 months on warranty but that is up in October and this issue is starting to make me very nervous. What is the cost of replacing the IAC if I have to start footing the bill? I am going to go have a nice chat with my local Ford rep. A car that likes to rev at 5000rpm may be a safety issue.
