I've had a bad day....sorry, don't have the patience to search the archives. I already think Ford is junk and SVT is expensive junk. But I digress...
My passenger window is stuck down in this terrible weather. I have been having problems with it. The motor seems to work because it worked going down but now does not want to go up. I thought it was the master window switch. It seemed to have fried in the summer. I was avoidding using the passenger window as a result. Anyways, I am downtown Pittsburgh, paying the lot attendeant so I can park and get into the Pittsburgh Auto show. After I told my girlfirend to pay the attendant, it didn't come back up. So it's been sitting for a week with the window down and a blanket slammed in the door sill. Anyways, I bought a brand new master window switch. After Ford providing the wrong part first, I had it special ordered. I replaced the switch. The other troubled window now goes up and down and doesn't hesitate anymore---I needed a new switch, but the passenger stuck window doesn't want to come up. Pushing the switch appears to put a draw on the engine. I can feel it. So, is it the motor or a wiring problem? Any ideas? If the motor worked going down, do you really think it would be a motor problem? Give me some ideas.

Window regulator. It's a common problem too. IIRC a new one is around $100 through Bill J.

did it go down slowly or drop down when you were lowering it. if it dropped most likely the cable broke. if this is the case: the motor will sound like its working but the window will not go back up. its a 5-10 min job to pull the door panel off and check.

this is just an idea, but the window may have just come out of its track. this will be evident if you take your door panel off and peek in after pulling out the speaker and stuff. to fix it you just need a little elbow grease and patience.

The window went down normally. Even when it was working, albiet with problems, it still went down and would come up if I fooled enough with the switch. That is why I suspected a switch and not a motor problem. At least I was hoping. Now it is stuck down. Again, I feel a draw of current when pressing the switch.

Do you see it drawing current in the up position as well as the down position? If not you may have a broken wire in the door jamb harness. If is drawing current both ways you may want to take it apart and have a look.

If you note lights dimming when operating the switch, that would seem to confirm switch OK. Problem therefore likely to be jammed mechanism/motor. Removing door panel would seem logical next step, allowing you to de-couple motor from mechanism and check its operation.

if you are planning to remove the door panels and its your first time, read the "how to" in the FAQ section. dont want any broken clips, like someone i know.
