Nope. The part that disintegrates is the impeller inside the water pump itself; most of the time it works just fine until it flies apart.
Rather than spin a wrench long enough to see the impeller, you should just replace the unit.

Bought mine today from Autozone. $69.99 Good preventative maintenence the way I see it.(66K)

It's just another expense to my spring cleaning tune-up to my SVT. Bought intake manifold gaskets today also...$74 for all four. Thermostat from Ford was $20, so I passed hoping to find one a little cheaper elsewhere. Although the $5 gasket was bought...

Like you've all ready read...Why would you want to even think about taking the chance of overheating your engine by NOT changing that WP.

Mine died at 80,000 mile and took the transmission with it. Some things just need to be replaced BEFORE they fail... wink

oh, replace the thermostat while you are there...only an extra 5 bucks...they go bad too with simular results
