Chipping an 02' GTI will put it around 215hp/245tq...depending on the octane tune, and will make it a mid to low 14 car easily. In fact there are guys on VWVORTEX that run in the 14's stock

I just want to clarify this...by stock what do you mean??

I think i understand but just incase others don;t, or they flame you for your statement...i have seen it happen...explain please....what is the definition of the 14's 1/4 mile stock. y definition i mean what ahve they done to the cars to get them to that point.

By stock I mean "stock". If you go on and search through the site some guys are running solid mid to high 14's out of the box(mostly 337's). Could they be super drivers....Don't know, but only so many people can talk BS.

A stock '02+ 1.8T Jetta is very close to beating a stock SVTC. Those cars are quick as hell. I have both...an SVT and an '02 Jetta 1.8T. Also keep in mind that I have the Tiptronic, its an Automatic with the manual shift mode if desired (fiance's main car)

Those cars are VERY capable in the modification world. Just an APR EMCS2 chip will take the older 1.8T's (150hp version) - dynoed at 135.6hp 150.7tq - to 177.6hp 224.8tq. A$$whipping galore right there.

Back to stock vs. stock....I think the stock SVT has the stock '02 1.8T once the revs are spread out (w/ the right driver as well).

But don't sell short those newer [edit] OR ANY [edit]1.8T's...I was surprised as hell when I test drove it....That's why Lisa and I bought one!

Maybe you'll get lucky and his ignition coils will fry!

Ah the benefit of having sparkless ignition.

Yep, they have been having issue with the coil packs...

The VW's aren't bulletproof, they do have there fair share of problems including coil packs, maf's, and interior rattle's.

I do agree that the auto/tip is a great ladies car. The tranny seems very efficient, and shifts very quickly....for a slushbox. Kinda reminds me of my S-10 SS, punch the gas and light up the tires....ahhhh gotta love torque!

ahhhh yes...those goddamn ignition coils...

All four of our coils have fried and replaced with the new coils. The car only has 6K miles on it! The car was in there three times for the coil packs (cyl 2, cyl 1 & 3, then cyl. 4) in that order.

lol

"Final Repair Notice" has been sent into VW for this problem....so no...these cars are not bulletproof.

lol

When were you able to tell that a coil pack went bad? Did the car start running like crap? Just wanna be ready to know what the telltale sign is....seeing as I don't drive it everyday.

oh....trust me....you'll know.

car bucks like a bastid....you give it gas and it doesn't go anywhere....
smells like rotten eggs and the CEL flashes a few times (I forgot the exact amount but the owners manual actually helps diagnose CEL's. If it flashes a few times then stops, it gives you the cause.

anyway - you'll know.

My GF has a 1.8T 2002 (auto/trip), one coil went out and it started to sputter when cold. Then two more let go, you will notice it, its like driving with the ebrake on.

Anyway, back to the topic, I think the the auto can/will beat any stock SVT. I really do hate the auto though and the trip seems so delayed. I only wish she got a 5-spd, that car would be a blast. Damn women drivers

I live in Omaha and own a 1995 VR6 Jetta I race against my friend's CSVT and I have nothing but respect for the CSVT. We don't really keep score on who beats who b/c it seems to be more on who gets the better start. I think that Ford should have worked on improving the CSVT instead of bringing out the Focus. The 2.5 Duratec has a great potential for more hp than Ford gave it, not that it's weak by any means I've read about some sick CSVT's on this website. I don't own a CSVT nor do I work on them so my opinion might be wrong. Over all lets face it all we really want to do is put hondas and other rice in their place but mostly hondas I have respect for Nissan and Subaru. Later. If you want to know more about the performance of the VR6 from personal use just ask my friend I let him drive it also and he has good personal insight. Later.
