Hey guys -
I have had this problem about 3-4 times...but it is increasing in frequency lately.
The car will not start on some cold mornings. It just cranks over and over, and will not fire. The original battery and plug wires are in the car. The plugs have been changed.
I keep trying, and nothing. I let it sit for 10 minutes and go back, pumping the gas on and off, and even holding the pedal to the floor in case it is flooded.
Then, it will just start for no reason. I just keep trying and it just fires. I am stumped. It seems the battery has enough juice to crank, but it just won't fire.
Anyone have any suggestions? I am baffled. Plug wires?
The gas tank is full. I don't think it is fuel line freeze. Could it be the battery even though the little green "eye" is bright on the battery, and it cranks fine?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks, Patrick

The battery is fine. Might want to replace the fuel filter and check the ignition to each cylinder. Mine actually starts quicker with NO gas pedal at all.

The Fuel filter was replaced about 5K miles ago.

as far as i know stepping on the gas pedal while starting will not do anything. These cars are computer controlled and it is completely automatic on startup. pretty sure on this, so I do not think it can flood, that is accociated with a carb

Patrick, I've had that problem twice. Does your car just kinda put for a minute after it finally starts? I had my fuel filter replaced and the dealer reflashed my computer...the reflash was supposed to help with hot starts, which isn't the problem, but I figured why not. Hasn't happened again, but I honestly don't know if it fixed what was wrong. Don't know what to say. Please let me know if you find out what it is.

Did a search on this subject a little while ago becuase of a similar problem and figured it could be the IAC Idle Air Control valve. You might want to check that out.

I doubt it is the IAC. For one the dealer replaced the IAC about 6 months ago under warranty...(which is now expired). Also, my car runs perfect after I get it started. So I suspect the IAC is ok.
Also, as far as I understood, putting the pedal on the floor cuts the fuel pump...to avoid flooding the car. I might be mistaken on this..in fact, I am not sure if you can flood an SVT...
I checked the voltage across the battery...12.8V, so I know that isn't the problem. I ordered new plug wires, but I don't think that is the problem.
I think it might be fuel related. Is there a fuel pressure check valve? Or could it be the fuel pressure regulator, or pump?
Thanks, Patrick

This may sound stupid, or might not be close the the answer you are looking for, but have you checked to make sure the battery terminals are clean/tight? I had a similar problem a few months ago, and it was hit and miss starting. Since it was cold, I assumed it was happening because of the weather. I had the battery tested, and it was fine. Dealer checked it, and it was fine. I cleaned(using wire battery brush and sand paper) the terminals and all related wires/rings, and no problem since. Like I said, don't know if that's your problem, but it's worth a shot.

i had the exact same problem! i dreaded each morning b/c it was a mystery if my car was going to start. and then one day it just would not start and i was stranded at 10pm 100km from home. dealer checked everything electrical, fuel pump, reprogrammed key. car was in the shop for 2w. everytime they tried it started. they would call me and say everything checks out and then when i would go down to pick it up it wouldn't start. in the end the just cleaned all electrical connections and it hasn't occured since(1 year now).
