Sure they have. You just have not looked for it.
It has been done for as little as around ~$800. ($500 low mileage engine plus gaskets & misc parts)
Now if you get ripped off (IMO - $2k for a shortblock ) by a place like SHOShop then it's probably 6-7 times that amount with labor.
I think a simple 3L hybrid (new bearings, rings, gaskets) for $1000 is doable by anyone capable of turning their on wrenches. Maybe $1500 for 3L valve work. For $2500-3000 a unbreakable high CR 3L with ported heads (etc, etc)

It was not broke; Yet I fixed it anyway.

Maybe I'll change my mind once she's done.
We are still looking for an engine management system. Anyone have any ideas?

MOTEC.....TEC2 or TEC3 to name a few.......That's where I'd look about full engine management
AND on another point..... about the whole engineers BS...... fug them you don't need to be an engineer to figure out most things.I hate it when people say you need to be an engineer to do this or blah blah blah If engineers are so great then why do cars fail?? Why do we get stock with the [censored] MTX75 that can't handle [censored] for increased power levels?? WEll why?? Well I better shut up now or I'll get banned from here too

You made a lot of good points about the enginers...which are true....but its also true that they have to meet a budget to which limits there quality of products. Let me ask you a question....If you were an engineer, and your company gave you all the time and money to crate a car, would you then creat the best car humanly possible??? The real world is though that engineers have dead lines, budgets, and state and federal restrictions to meet...which can also hamper quality.
Now im not saying that your assesment is wrong, but there are a lot more variables that should have been included.

I undertstand all that, but when they have years to design these cars and alot of people helping them. I just find it frustrating that they make a cool car and then there is a weak link. And about me designing a car it would be all about function. I like rally cars and AWD turbo cars. And considering alot of these cars can handle absurd amounts of power upgrades and keep stock trannies it pisses me off when a car can't even handle it's stock power output. I have a mazda 323GTX and it's a prime example. It's AWd and turbocharged but, the tranny is terrible. They are notorious for synchro's failing and self destructing. I won't even discuss the wheel bearings and brakes on them they're worse The whole reason I have such a big problem with engineers is because at my work all we do is fix there fug ups. And it's pretty much the same every where else. The engineers design a machine, it's built and installed at a factory, It's started up and it don't work!!!!, then the engineer's come over and start pointing fingers at everyone else but themselves. And you know what happens next??? Me the maintenance man(millwright) has to fix it. No blueprints no,CAD design, no computers, just me and my BRAIN!!! I hate engineers they never stop and think and think what will happen when I do this or that????? Sorry about the rant I'm just trying to explain my hatred towards them. The funny thing is I have 2 friends that are engineers, but they're car nutz so they know how to think.

Wow, your company employs some bad engineers. Nice job generalizing every engineer to be just as bad as the incompetent ones you've dealt with. The mechanics I worked with (I am an engineer) liked me, because I worked with them instead of ordering them around AND I provided them with the documentation they needed to do their job when I wasn't standing over their shoulders.
Are all Irish drunks? Do all Mexicans pick beans? Does everyone that listens to the Greatful Dead smoke pot? No. And not all engineers are EXACTLY like the ones you deal with. So if you want to rant about engineers, go to Common Interests instead of hijackings threads here.

i think you all completely misread this. i read it as a sincere inquiry for pure curiousity. i often wonder what demon or brad or buckshot do for a living. r they mechanics working on cars all day who we can turn to with specific questions based on their occupation or engineers (who can make custom engineering stuff for us-whatever that is). if demon happens to work for a company involved with making cams, then down the road i'd likely ask him about the possibility of custom cams (knowing that he's in this field). i know draven works for a body shop that does custom painting and stuff. knowing that, i've directed question to him when i was having my car repainted.
