So, as of reciently I own a four door 96 contour sport with manual transmition. I'll looking to take a few steps in increasing the performance of my car. But which mod gives the best bang for the buck? And what order to make them in? I'm a little above average with my hands, and fairly good with electronics. I'm just not sure where to start and what i can really expect to get out of a 4 banger?

CTA intake, and custom exhaust...remove the resonator (muffler like thing in front of your rear muffler). Chip, Crank underdrive pulley, are some other good, fairly cheap mods.

so maybe i am an ultra newbie, but what is cta intake? cai is cold air induction i guess, right? but cta? and do you recommend a brand to go with? and for the resonator? i thought about that. how throaty will that make my car sound? and will eat a lot more gas? the chip is like 250 bucks right? are those ebay things a rip off? and the new pully will mess with my alternator and airconditioner? sorry about all the questions.

CTA intake - 3" intake with open air element can be found at www.ctamotorsports.comResonator- if removed will make the exhaust a little deeper on a stock system, good for a couple HP...well maybe. Chip- is $250 but gives a little more umph (advanced timing)and gets rid of limiters, rev and speed. Ebay things are a rip off, stay away from them. The UDP does not affect anything. Gives you car a few more horses and revs faster. All these things do not really affect your gas mileage. IT actually helps it due to the fact to get going you don't have to floor it like stock. If you stomp on it constantly, then your gas mileage will suffer.

like stated above. All of these mods, except for chip will actually increase you gas mileage, especially the CAI by CTA and the exhaust, just dont get to big of a pipe when doin your exhaust, single 2.25 or maybe 2.5 will be fine.
The only reason I say chip will hurt you in gas is becuase it requires you to buy a higher octane level of fuel, because of the affected timing. It may help you get better gas mileage, but you are paying more for gas, so you prolly will end up spending the same, if not a lil more...

Please, I got better gas mileage with the chip than without, even with spending a little more on 93 octane.
