Anyone done this mod? Was wondering if there is a how-to that you don't have to buy. Also if anyone has done this and has pics please post them. Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't suggest it because you could damage your lock mechanism fairly easy!

you won't damage your lock unless your a super retard. the trunk lid doesn't even come in contact with the lock while the lid is flopped. you just put some brackets where the lid is hinged and take out the bolts when you want to flip it.

DO NOT DO THIS!

our trunks are too heavy for hinges, i came up with a better way....

get a length of shelving rack mounts (you know those long poles about an inch wide with holes in them for shelves) You'll need to measure the stock hinge arm width and make sure that the rail you buy will be just big enough to fit around it. cut yourself 2 8 inch pieces of the rail

take your trunk off and put these rails above the bolt holes in the hinge arms (stock bolts are 10mm btw) and mark out where you need to drill... you'll most likely need to make the gaps in the rails wider, not a big deal just drill em out a bit.
now mount those rails to the trunk.

take your drill or better yet a dremel and cut bigger square holes into the top of the hinge arms where the factory holes are.

this is the trickey part... we just held my trunk lid on the rails resting on the stock hinges, we made marks at the bottom of the rail so we'd know where to hold. then we drilled a hole through the side of the new rails and the stock hinge arms as close to the edge as you can confidently get. Grab a pair of grade 8 bolts and nuts from the hardware store, make your holes big enough to take those bolts but not so much as a hair bigger, this is important.

now put those bolts through the holes and put the nuts on the other side (bolts pointing towards the middle of the trunk, nuts on inside of hinges).

Now you'll take some cotter pins OR (i found these cool like 1/4" diameter pins with key rings on one side and a little spring loaded ball on the other side at the hardware store) but use your imagination here... tip the trunk lid up into the stock position and hold it there... drill a hole through your rails and hinge arms big enough for your pin. That will hold the trunk normally and u just pop em out when you want to flip flop.

now heres the annoying part.. take it all apart and fit 2-3 washers (you have to wing this, all of the hinges fit differently) between the rail and the trunk lid on the BACK BOLTS (the ones that would be furthest from the front seat...) the trunk will not seal or close w/o a gap without these washers to offset the way the factory hinge arms close.

i'll get some pics up monday if i can to show you what i mean more precisely.
