I knew that, but it doesn't appear he has ever visited their site!

Andy W. The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

Please expand on this. You contracted Bilstein to custom fabricate a set of struts for your Contour? And you swap them in when you track the car? Sounds like a lot of work!

I'd be interested in your specs for the Bilstein hardware since I went through the same process when I designed the suspension Leda built for me. Is that a threaded body setup? Which damping adjutments did you get? 1500$ is a good price for a track setup, mine was over 2000$.

The only reason mine was so cheap is becasue my rep and i are on good terms...and in a why it was a "gift" i got them for there cost (just above there cost) and in returen when i am on the track i support bilstein with some decals. kinda like a sponsor ship but not really. they don;t give me money for my car or anyhting like that. The kit they used is a custom PSS9 type kit. they are the similar in spring rate to the H&R's., As for details im not too sure....i just got them and am slowy going over the specs so i can remember.

Right now for street use im running on Eibachs and Sachs struts.

As for mas production or getting them for others...i will have to ask my rep...this was kinda a one time thing..but hey they may do it if they think theres a demand.

I wasn't trying to bag on you Andy. Just trying to enlighten the unenlightened. We throw around the "short names" so much... BAT, DMD, UIM, LIM, SPM, THM, GRM, C&D, R&T, IMRC, FMS...

Rozwell, that sounds like an interesting setup you've got. I'm running Bilstein's PSS9 system on my GTI and I'm very happy with them.

Being an adaptation of the PSS9, your application is a threaded body damper, right? Spring rates similar to the H&R's are way too low for track duty... As a reference I was running a 500lb/in front spring and a 275lb/in rear spring on my Leda kit. That was borderline not enough on smooth tracks, I couldn't imagine anything less performing nicely.

Don't take this the wrong way, but I can't help but wince at the thought of swapping suspensions for track days... Splitting the knuckle at the front, etc, etc...

Are you having to tie-wrap the ABS wires and brake lines to the Bilstein struts, or did they also weld on the tabs for OEM style mounting? They must have done that to accomodate a front sway bar, especially with those low spring rates, right? Unless you had to relocate the end-link?

I did away with the front bar on my setup to allow the threads to run lower down the strut's body.. otherwise I could only run a 5" spring which would go into coil bind after 1" of compression travel once the car was down on its suspension.. Not acceptable for track duty.

It took a long time to design my setup, I'm just impressed that Bilstein were able to whip up a one-off that even fit on the car witout much R&D! 1500$ can't possibly be cost price, unless your dampers have external reservoirs and separate bump and rebound damping adjusters? But that's far off the PSS9 spec!!

More info please. Pics maybe, while they're not on your car at the moment?

Very nice of you to work this out for the community..

You don't have any thoughts on my post? Answers to some of my questions maybe? I find your track setup very intriguing and I'd like you to share info on it.. pics would be nice as well.. I know I have several of my Leda setup.

Ill be honest....Suspension is mot my specialty....I do know that they did have to re-route most of the break lines to accomidate the lower suspension.

Let me be a little more percise, the springs in fornt are 600lbs and the rear are 350lbs....from what bilstein told me there working excellent for the track...The dampners ARE NOT bilstein though...thats why it didn;'t take very long to create the spring....Instead i am going to run them whith Konis till I can fine a Sachs Racing strut for my car that will fit with minimum modifcation to the spring pearch.

As of right now they told me that the spiring will sit in the OE spring pearches...but they will have to look at future modification to it so i can get full potential out of the springs and struts.

The front sway bar is on the car will have to be removed to accomidate the lowering....to me it didn;t serve much purpose anyways.....

The R&D wasn't done on my personal car...it was done on my uncles 2000 SVT contour.....He lives in souther california where one of Bilsteins ares is located in Orange County.

And the only reason i payed 1500 is becasue its just the springs and no struts....soo...right now thats all i got. The reaon its not on my car yet too is becaue its still my daily driver and im getting a new car later this year....and when that happens then the modifications will be done to me car and track time will be intresting....
