I bought a set of three gauges (Ammeter, Volts and Oil pressure) last summer and never got around to putting them in. They are mechanical and will work on our cars....you just need to ensure that you have the right connections in the right place. Don't know if I'm going to install them as I'm not sure how comfortable I am with the idea of having pressurized fluid piped into the passenger compartment via the gauges.
I agree that you don't need a water temperature gauge unless you're going to pull out the instrument cluster panel and replace the gauge there.
