Yes, the Duratec family 4 cylinder is the eventual succesor to the Zetec. In CA and Northeast states, the Focus now has a 2.3L Duratech.
But, the Z. was only introduced around 1994! The 8v 2.0 in the Focus LX dates back to 1981 Escort. It's kinda too bad the Z has a shorter life.

2.3L duratec in Ford rangers. Duratec 6 cyl in contour and Taurus. The Euro Duratecs are new in the Mondeo and Focus.. 2.0,2.3, 2.5L displacement. they have the intake and exhaust ports on opposite sides compared to the zetec. they also have aluminum blocks.

Sorry if the thread had no purpous. it was was merly intrested in whcih one came first and what the diffrences are between the too. Just trying to expand my knowledge.

2.3L already in the Focus over here? Will that swap easily enough into a Zetec Tour? What's the power specs on those?
My Zetec died one too many times so I got a new car.
