I finally had time to put in the new hoses I bought on Terry's recommendation.
Both of the existing hoses were NOT connected to the EGR tube! I installed one of the new hoses but the other new one didn't seem to have a large enough inside diameter so I just reconnected the old one. Within 1/4 mile on the test drive, the old one popped off the EGR tube and I started getting a constant hissing/whoosing noise that seemed even worse than the noise when both hoses were not connected to the EGR tube.
Any idea why this old hose won't stay on? I'm not sure what to do, since the part that I thought would be right doesn't seem to fit.
The new hose that I did put on has a larger inside diameter than the other new one that wouldn't fit. Did the Ford parts shop sell me a wrong hose, or do you think I should try harder to jam it on there? It seems like I probably need another hose just like the new one that installed fine. How critical is it for the correct hose to be in each place?
I guess I could have put the wrong hose on, but I don't think the smaller-diameter new hose would have fit on either tube.
