ok in my 93 Escort (see sig) its been wanting to send sparks flying from exhaust during hard acceleration. Noticed it for the first time the other night coming in from work. I accelerated hard (floored it) and sparks were coming from the exhaust. I pulled over because people were flashing there lights at me but nothing was dragging and I couldn't find anything wrong. So I took her home and shut her down. Don't know what could cause this confused

I know people were probably laughing seeing a 93 escort going 85 down the interstate with sparks flying everyhwhere (just picture it.) Anyways, anyone know what could cause this?

I guess I could tell everyone its "custom." confused :p

The only thing I can think off is the e-brake is stuck.

Sounds like more of a mod than a problem! wink Let me know what caused it to do that so I can do it to my car...lol Imagine flooring it after pumping gas, realizing you dripped too much on the ground after taking the nozzle out! eek

Terry is right. You're probably shooting hot pieces of the packing out.

am I really hurting anything by driving it? I really dont want to put alot of money into repairs on this car. It might would cost more than the car to fix it, I dunno. I guess my questions are is it o.k. to drive and how much should I expect to pay to have it fixed. thanks. smile

I had a 91 escort and I thought that the Exhaust was sparking but it was actually the e-brake was stuck on. The brake pads were gone and metal on metal causes sparks.

For the cat melting that is a good possibilty also. If you dont worry about emissions, hack the cat off and put a pipe in place of it.

Carbon hasnt created sparks on the vehicles I have driven. I used to work at a Chrysler dealership and the vehicles would come in, have a lot of carbon build up. Once you drove it on the road a big black puff of smoke would come out and no sparks.
