I only recently found this site and I am thankful for all the work. I think I have read almost every post including the archived ones. This will be kinda long.
In 1998 I bought my daughter a 1995 Mystique to take to college. Since she was 5 hours away she did not have time to come home a lot and I could not keep a good check on the vehicle.
About a year ago she was home and said the drivers window would not work and she had a cel on. Took it to the Lincoln Mercury place where I had them replace the window switch and read the cel. Their advice - need two O2 sensors, dpfe and egr for a total of $800. Car was running just fine, no problems.
Told them to forget that! Appx 6 months ago she was home and driving down the highway and temp gauge pegged, she caught it and yep water pump destroyed. Had that replaced at my independent mechanic.
Month ago she was home and had my mechanic check cel and now a new indication of low coolant.
Repair: Low coolant was bad water reservoir, the float was sinking. Replaced tank, everything ok. Turns out the O2 sensors, dpfe, and egr were ok. Mechanic pulled intake manifold and cleaned passages between egr and manifold. CEL no longer on.
Found this site. Checked wiring harness. Crumbling. To dealer.(Ford this time, do not trust LM dealer). After waiting for over an hour they drove it in the shop and as I watched, they raised the hood, bent over, looked in, closed hood and said yep, wiring bad we will have to order harness. Could be a while sometimes they have to make those. Still waiting.

2 O2s, EGR, & DPFE should be around $200. Doubt all of them went bad at the same time though. Also they are easy very simple DIY jobs.
The coolant reservoir has a level sensor not a float. Simple fix is running the coolant level 1/4-1/2 inch over the max level. The hyperactive sensor is a known problem. The other fix is to pull the sensor and clean the tip as it gets deposit buildup on it using the old green coolant. It's much less common to actually have enough build up to throw the sensor off.
I'd push the dealer to come up with the harness. It's Very expensive if they decide not to cover it (which has happened to some folks)
Good luck and welcome...

WOW! It almost sounds like we have the exact same car w/problems. If this trend continues: When it starts missing: Coil Pack. (might have gone bad because of plugs and/or wires, so just replace all three.) When the window starts grinding going up and down, its the window regulator (cables get funkified).

Welcome To CEG. you will find a fast wealth of information here and very helpful people. I hope your problems will get solved soon. I know it proabably seems like this is a problem car but onec you get past your current issues you should look into Preventive matanence.
EX: Doing oil changes early like every 3000 to 5000 miles.
Make sure the new water pump has a metal impeller. NOT PLASTIC. or you will ahve the same problem as you did with the old one.
You can find the metal ones at you Local Auto Zone.
hummm...thats all i can remember.
Good Luck.!

as demon said, push them...i had my car at two dealerships to get the harness inspected ...first time i had no idea what to look for and they did the check on their own but decided everything was okay...by the second time i knew what to look for and where but was still denied, saying that the cracked wires were not part of the recall coverage
i found a packet, somewhere on this site i believe, but by the time i should have gone back i lagged and my car went over the 100k mile mark....ford (or rather the dealers) tries to get out of covering the wiring harness because its an expensive and time-consuming fix....someone actually linked to a post on another site where a ford tech was saying that he would deny any repairs like that because he wasn't going to make his mechanics work for free like that
when u have time, go over this site with a fine-tooth comb until u find the recall packet i mentioned...locate your vehicle and then take it back...the bs about it takes a while to make it is possibly hoping u'll go over 100k miles so they dont have to honor the recall
i let them slide and now im praying my car doesn't die someday...i dont have the 700 or more to shell out if the harness goes

Thanks to everyone,
Yes, I had found the recall and the link to the 66 page I think dealer change out directions. I carried all that in with me and had a conversation with the service manager. After that discussion and looking up the vehicle on "OASIS" they admitted it was covered. I pointed out that in the diagnosis tree the first inspection was visual. Only if the visual failed would they have to do an indepth electrical check. It was obvious where the wires were cracked and where the insulation had already fallen off. I have a print out from them that they have ordered it and it is under warranty.
I tried to press to have the cat's changed but as far as I can tell I am having no problems with them yet.
If I had not found this site I would not have known about the wiring harness recall as I do not think I ever got notification.
I was not kidding in the original post when I said I had read most (maybe not all) of the posts here even the archived ones. After all I am retired and I have plenty of time.
Thanks again to everyone here for posting problems and solutions.
