The brackets can be easily welded in place. There is a piece with right handed and left handed threads on it. When the nut in the center is tightened it extends the bar outward holding it in place. I have had mine in for well over a year and it has never moved or caused anything but better cornering. It was designed to be easily removable with a simple crescent wrench. I would personally cut a slit in the carpet rather than removing like Po'Jay did. Mine goes right over the carpet.
